A shaggy, water-loving scenthound with a big heart
Bred in Britain to follow scent over land and water, the rare Otterhound is a friendly, boisterous and slightly clownish hound with a rough, oily coat and a big voice. It needs plenty of exercise and regular coat care, and loves a swim.

Yes, they were bred to hunt in rivers and have a water-repellent coat and webbed feet. Many will happily swim whenever given the chance.
They are friendly and tolerant with children and other dogs. Their size and exuberance mean supervision is wise around small children.
They need regular brushing and occasional trimming to keep the rough coat free of tangles. Ears and beard also need frequent checking and cleaning.
