Also known as Dutch Barge Dog, Wolfspitz
A sociable, spectacled spitz who wants to be part of everything
The Keeshond was a watchdog on Dutch canal barges and became a symbol of the Dutch Patriot movement. It is friendly, clever and devoted, with a plush silver and black coat that needs regular brushing, and it does not enjoy being left alone.

This breed needs about 60 minutes of activity a day. Around 3 sitter-led sessions a week keeps that routine going when work or travel gets in the way.

Yes, they are affectionate, patient and sociable with children, other dogs and visitors. They do best in a household where someone is home for much of the day.
They are alert and will bark at visitors and sounds, and may bark from boredom if left alone. Training a quiet cue and giving company and exercise helps.
Brushing a couple of times a week keeps the coat free of mats, with daily brushing during the seasonal shed. Baths are only needed occasionally.
