The gentle giant of the hound world
Bred in Ireland to hunt wolves and elk, the Irish Wolfhound is the tallest of the sighthounds yet is calm, dignified and gentle at home. It needs space, a secure fence and careful joint and heart health monitoring, and unfortunately has a short lifespan.

This breed needs about 60 minutes of activity a day. Around 3 sitter-led sessions a week keeps that routine going when work or travel gets in the way.

Best-matched service
Usually yes, as they are patient and gentle. Their sheer size means a careless bump can knock a small child over, so supervision is important.
Around an hour of steady walking suits most adults, plus safe chances to stretch out. Growing puppies should not be over-exercised because of their fast-growing joints.
It is not ideal. They are calm indoors but need room to move, easy stairs and a large bed, so a house with a secure garden is a much better fit.
