A rustic French shepherd with shaggy charm and prick ears
One of the old French herding breeds, the Picardy Sheepdog is hardy, intelligent and devoted, with a tousled weatherproof coat. It is sensitive but independent, and it thrives with an active owner who provides work and gentle, consistent guidance.

It can be a challenge. The breed is smart but independent and slow to mature, so a first-time owner needs to be committed to training and daily activity.
Only lightly. The rough coat sheds moderately and is easy to keep tidy with weekly brushing and no heavy grooming.
It is not ideal. A medium-large active herder does best with a garden and long daily outings, and it can be noisy when under-exercised.
