Also known as Newfie
A gentle giant with webbed feet and a lifeguard's heart
The Newfoundland was bred as a fishermen's water and draught dog, with webbed feet and a thick waterproof coat. It is sweet-natured and patient with children, but very large, heavy-shedding and prone to drooling.

This breed needs about 60 minutes of activity a day. Around 3 sitter-led sessions a week keeps that routine going when work or travel gets in the way.

Best-matched service
Many do, especially after drinking or when anticipating food. It varies by dog, but owners usually keep a cloth close by.
They are known for gentleness and patience with children. Their sheer size means play should still be supervised, as a wagging tail or a lean can knock a small child over.
It is not ideal. The dog is calm indoors but needs space, cool surroundings and easy access to outdoors, and a large heavy dog struggles with stairs and small rooms.
