Also known as Laekenois, Rough-coated Belgian Shepherd
A rare, rough-coated Belgian herder with tireless energy
The Laekenois is the rarest of the four Belgian Shepherd varieties, with a rough, tousled fawn coat. Alert, athletic and devoted to its family, it needs a lot of activity and structure, and a coat that is easy to keep but needs stripping now and then.

This breed needs about 120 minutes of activity a day. Around 7 sitter-led sessions a week keeps that routine going when work or travel gets in the way.

It has a rough, wiry, fawn-coloured coat instead of the smooth or long coats of the other varieties. Temperament and exercise needs are very similar.
Less than many herding breeds thanks to the wiry coat, but it still needs regular brushing and occasional stripping to stay comfortable and tidy.
It is not well suited. The breed is energetic and alert, so it does best in a home with outdoor space and an owner who provides long daily activity.
